Installing and testing GuiXT on your PC

You can test all the GuiXT components on your own PC with very little effort and absolutely no risk.

In order to do so, install the GuiXT components on your PC. You can now define a new layout for SAP masks. For example you can delete, shift and rename fields, add texts, images and your own pushbuttons. All these layout changes will appear on your PC only.

  • Installing and testing GuiXT on your PC has no impact on other users of the SAP system; you alone work with the new layout on SAP masks.

  • There are no changes whatsoever to the SAP system. The GuiXT components are installed and the scripts loaded only onto your PC.

  • At any time during the test you can revert back to standard SAP masks by suspending the GuiXT option.

  • If other users want to try out the masks you have altered, all you have to do is offer them your scripts (text files!). In the event of adoption by a large number of users, GuiXT offers the possibility of centralized administration.

How to proceed:

Step 1: Installing the GuiXT components

Load GuiXT Setup and Designer Setup onto your PC and execute both these programs. You can install GuiXT in a directory of its own, e.g. C:\GuiXT.

 Now copy the files

  • guixt.exe

  • guixt.dll

  • pinnacle.dll

into your sapgui directory, usually C:\Program Files\SAPpc\sapgui.

Step 2: Ordering and installing testkeys

Note your SAP installation number; it appears when you click on System->Status in R/3. Example: 0220452822. Note also the HostId that is generated when you install GuiXT Designer; once you are in Designer click on Tools->License manager->Copy HostId. Example: S835A19D7.   Now fill out the Testkey order form. Synactive then sends you the license keys by email, usually within the next half hour; they are valid for 30 days. Example:

GuiXT-License keyl (with InputAssistant, Viewer): xrgbhzbq
Designer-License key: 2-2003-1085-0-1559-3531F-5FE0A

Now activate GuiXT in the sapgui options:

GuiXT will now start automatically. Display GuiXT Profile via Edit->Profile in GuiXT and enter the GuiXT Testkey (Testkey field).  Choose a directory in which you wish to store your scripts (e.g. C:\GuiXT\skripts) and enter this directory as "Directory1" into the GuiXT profile.

From the GuiXT window start the GuiXT Designer via Tools->Designer and enter the Designer license key via menu choices Tools->License manager.

Step 3: Adapt the mask layout

In the SAP system, bring up the mask whose layout you wish to modify. In GuiXT click on Edit->Script (if you want to write the script yourself) or click on Tools->Designer, if you want to use the GuiXT Designer.  Modify the layout and save the GuiXT script. Next time you bring up the SAP system, you can choose which layout will be displayed.
